2012 Honor Roll
Between the politics, the weather, and the completely epic Mayan Apocalypse, it’s a wonder we got anything done this year. Here are a few noteworthy people who did:
Best Branded Content and Creative:
AdAge’s “7 Branded Content Campaigns That Got It Right In 2012” lauds Expedia for its “Find Yours” campaign, developed by 180LA, which aims to generate “feelings of boldness and discovery” rather than focusing on selling plane tickets. Other 2012 notables for best branded content include Coke, Red Bull, Facebook and Qualcomm. Check out AdWeek’s “10 Best Commercials of 2012” list here.
Adweek’s Global Agency of the Year for 2012 went to Wieden. Their Super Bowl spot, “It’s Halftime in America,” with Clint Eastwood was an instant hit, and their “Jogger” ad for Nike during the Olympics was met with raves as well. Mediapost’s pick for best agency went to Digitas for their skillful journalistic/’breaking news’-style approach to branded content, as well as for their overwhelming “NewFront” success.
Best in Social:
Trendrr.TV’s “Social TV Activity Report, 2012 Year End Stats” places NBC as the most social TV network of the year, with much of the credit owed to their coverage of the Olympics, while“SpongeBob SquarePants” topped the list for most social show.
Best Internet Stock:
Somewhat surprisingly, AOL has been named as the hottest internet stock of 2012 in a recent AllThingsD report. AOL’s sudden turnaround seems to come courtesy of their talented new CEO Tim Armstrong.
Fastest Growing Digital Channel:
Mobile usage exploded this year and is poised to grow exponentially throughout 2013. With US tablet ownership doubling this year, and mobile marketing, video, and payments all gaining speed, it’s clearly a huge area for growth which won’t be slowing down any time soon.
