Tell us about your journey. Why advertising and technology?
I dreamed of becoming a “Stanley Mouse” or an “Alton Kelley” for the bands of my generation, so I went to college for visual design/advertising art. After I got out of college, I realized the jobs in the field were very scarce. I started looking for work outside of the advertising art world, and I landed in background investigations. After 9/11, the FiDi-based office I worked in never reopened, and I started seeking work in media again. Armed with a heavy systems background and an interest in emerging media, I was hired by Donovan Data in 2007 as a Client Accounting Support Rep. I moved to the Account team, and then I was realigned within Support and Training, focusing on Data Delivery and Prisma.
What are a few of your strengths and passions? How has working at Mediaocean enabled you to flex some of these muscles?
Interpersonal Communication - I am a natural born teacher and excellent storyteller. Mediaocean has taken my campfire speak and refined it in a business capacity. When it comes down to it, this role is entirely about people and being able to explain things to them in a clear and easy way.
What do you enjoy most about working at Mediaocean?
Being able to work in digital media is very exciting! It amazes me how much the world of advertising has advanced since I was first exposed to it, devising more creative ways to reach consumers and to keep up with emerging technologies. It’s really satisfying to be on the forefront, helping users understand the technology created to help them succeed in this ever-changing landscape.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years and what role does Mediaocean play in helping you get there?
My answer would be “Hopefully not where I expect to be”. Truthfully, I didn’t think I would ever work in media in my current capacity, and as far as where I will be in 10 years, all I can say is that I want to be in media, contributing to creative design. That could be in development, managing accounts, senior planning, or as a junior artist. The changing nature of digital media means there will be opportunities that I haven’t even considered yet, and I can’t wait for the coming years. All I know for sure is that I want to be here, at Mediaocean, helping shape the ecosystem of ad tech in a very meaningful way.
What’s your favorite employee perk at Mediaocean?
The overall atmosphere here at Mediaocean is fantastic. It’s all one big perk to me. The snacks and drinks, free meals, branded gifts, collaborative workspaces, and cutting-edge tech around every corner all make for a very interactive work environment. The massages and mindfulness offerings like yoga and workshops are also very much up my alley and I participate when I can.
Coffee or tea?
I like a little coffee with my sugar and milk.
